Psychotherapy is my second career. I started out in the business world - public relations and publishing - and although I enjoyed the work, it was ultimately unrewarding for me. I wanted to work with people, to really stand side-by-side with someone in crisis and not only help heal their pain but also help uncover their strengths. So after years of working in Manhattan and Philadelphia, I went back to school and received my Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Rutgers University. After fulfilling the necessary requirements, I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
I have over 15 years of experience as a psychotherapist working with children, adolescents, families, adults and couples who are experiencing difficulties in life and relationships for various reasons. I love helping clients explore and change the patterns in their thoughts and behaviors that get in the way of them creating the life that they desire.
I have been trained in, and utilize psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), strength-based therapy among others, with clients depending on what would be useful to help work through life stressors and individual issues. I am certified in CBT, Trauma-focused CBT and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSRT). Mindfulness and meditation practice influence my approach as well and I both encourage and teach these practices in sessions.
I am a member of the Suicide Prevention Task Force of Camden County, a team leader for the Trauma Loss Coalition in Camden and Gloucester Counties and a Disaster Response Crisis Counselor for the State of NJ.
I work respectfully with my clients, supporting them as they explore their unique experiences in order to help manage feelings, move forward, and gain a new perspective.
